LWPR Celebrates Seven Years

As we emerge from the fog of Cinco de Mayo margaritas this morning, it dawns us: we didn’t post about our seventh anniversary yesterday! Photo Credit: http://casinogambling.about.com/od/craps/ss/dicesets_8.htm May 5 marked seven years in business. During that time, I’ve been a one-woman show working from home. I’ve moved my business out of my home and to some great spaces in downtown Lakeland. The business has grown and I’ve hired employees. Interns have come and gone. It’s been a wild ride that has included working with clients from all over the country, as well as a few in Canada and England. We’ve...

Why We’re Bitter With Twitter

Here’s a bittersweet announcement for you this fine hump day morning: Twitter started rolling out their new and improved profile layout yesterday. New and improved? That’s arguable. Pretty sweet, right? No. Because the new layout is only available to a select small group i.e., hot actor guys like @channingtatum and @zacefron and Twitter newbs. Obviously we are neither and will have to wait as Twitter slowly includes us peons in the coming weeks. We aren’t bitter.     Here are the features that are supposed to make the new Twitter sweeter for tweeters: 1.)    Best Tweets: Tweets that have received more engagement...

I Can’t Cut the Cord, Ya’ll.

The only certainty in life is change. This has been duly noted and added to the endless list of life lessons I’m soaking up right now. After 15 spectacular months of working with the Lorrie Walker Public Relations team in various capacities, I’m folding up my reading glasses and embarking on the next adventure…sort of. Overdramatic and self-admiring goodbye speeches make me cringe, so I’d like to use this post to applaud the passion, work ethic and pure amazingness of Lorrie, Barbara, and the world’s most over-achieving interns, Nick and Danielle. They generate first-class PR for our clients and are simply awesome people....

Lorrie Walker PR Likes Downtown “a Latte”

The LWPR team takes a quick break for a photo shoot.  And yes, the customized chocolate coin is a part of the team. As an intern, the Lorrie Walker Public Relations downtown office is a dream work location.  It’s close to some of Lakeland’s best coffee — an obvious perk! (In case you haven’t noticed, I like good coffee and bad puns “a latte”). In addition to great coffee, the area around LWPR also boasts some of the area’s best local lunch spots and a charming atmosphere.  I also love the close proximity to the Florida Southern College campus. Lorrie Walker started her business from the spare bedroom in her house and...

The topic was so well received, I’ve revamped it and will present it once again Feb. 1 at the Florida Leadership Forum. This forum is sponsored by Florida Kiwanis and is open to the public. It’s also a steal of a deal. Just $50 gets you into the event, which features a broad range of speakers. Here are just a few: J. Lenora Bresler- an attorney who graduated from law school at 20. She is a certified senior human resource professional and a professional public speaker in the...

Social Media Butterfly Lands at LWC

We are happy to announce that Jessica Gutowski Slaydon is sharing her social media prowess with us here at Lorrie Walker Communications. In case you haven’t met her yet, here’s her story and how she came to be our “social media butterfly.” The Michigan native struck out for Florida in 2005 to pursue a spot on Florida Southern College’s waterski team, where she eventually became captain. She earned her bachelor’s degree in public relations with a minor in graphic design, and also snagged her best friend and future husband Jake Slaydon. Jes, who’s always in a good mood- even on Mondays- didn’t slow down there. “I have always...
