Originally from Ocala, Florida, Lorrie Delk Walker has worked in the journalism and public relations fields since 1993. She received her initial journalism and public relations training while serving in the U.S. Army and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in business and professional leadership from Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida.
Lorrie moved to Lakeland in 1999 and worked as a staff writer for Polk County’s daily newspaper, The Ledger. She has covered education, city government, public safety, felony courts and sports as a journalist at weekly and daily newspapers throughout the years.
In addition to starting Lorrie Walker Communications, Inc. in 2007, Lorrie also is a freelance writer who has had articles published in local, regional, state and national magazines, including Super Chevy and Florida Monthly. She has written for professional trade publications as well, including TelecomFinders and PowerSource Online.
A strong proponent of Internet-based marketing and online public relations efforts, Lorrie encourages the use of social media in public relations campaigns where appropriate. She believes the advent of blogs, social networking outlets and sites devoted to posting and distributing articles and press releases are powerful tools in helping small businesses compete with their larger counterparts and carve out their own portion of the market share.
